Marjorie's Kitchen does not use artificial sweeteners and limits
the amount of processed ingredients in all recipes. Our
preferred menus for Diabetic Clients are the South Beach Diet
and The Zone. Both eliminate simple sugars including beets,
corn, and potatoes; eliminate the whites (wheat flour, regular
pasta, as well as the aforementioned potatoes); and utilize
high-quality, lean protein. The Zone, in particular, balances
every meal and snack by including protein along with any
carbohydrate. The protein slows down the rate at which the
carbs are absorbed by the blood stream.
Both programs have maintenance phases which include a wider
variety of carbohydrates, but recommend them in limited
quantities.
There are other eating plans including, but not limited to, Dr.
Bernstein's Diabetes Solution and Dr. Joseph Mercola's
No-Grain Diet which offer different approaches to the low
carbohydrate lifestyle.
